The History of the Festival
The Flower & Garden Festival began in 1994 as a simple celebration of Disney’s horticulture, and has grown into one of the most beloved seasonal events at EPCOT.
The Early Years
Originally, the festival focused on:
Garden displays
Landscaping showcases
Educational exhibits
There were no food booths, no festival menus, just a beautiful way to highlight Disney’s incredible design and plant work.
The Rise of Topiaries
As the festival evolved, Disney introduced character topiaries, and everything changed.
These living sculptures:
Became the heart of the festival
Turned EPCOT into a storybook you can walk through
Created the iconic photo moments we all love today
The Food Era
In the early 2010s, Disney added Outdoor Kitchens, bringing food into the experience.
This shift made the festival feel closer to the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival, while still keeping its lighter, spring-inspired identity.

Topiaries You Can’t Miss
A topiary is a living sculpture made from carefully trimmed plants, shrubs, and greenery shaped into detailed designs, like your favorite Disney characters
At EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival, these aren’t just decorations, they’re works of art created by Disney horticulturists using thousands of plants to bring each character to life.
